How Garcinia Cambogia Reduces Bad Cholesterol

Cholesterol is an essential part of our cellular makeup and plays an important role in the production of healthy body hormones and the production of bile acid, which is actually something that aids in fat absorption.

However, when cholesterol accumulates in excess amounts in the cell membrane, it can have a very toxic effect on the body. This specific type of toxicity is commonly associated with weight gain and increased risk of heart disease.

In 2 experimental studies (1), use of Garcinia cambogia extract caused a significant increase in LDL (low-density lipoprotein) receptor activity, which is the thing responsible for removing cholesterol from your blood stream. For all of the test subjects, this resulted in a reduced production of cholesterol.

Garcinia Cambogia has also been found to contain Flavonoids that reduce triglycerides, phospholipids, and free fatty acids. All three of these, just like cholesterol, are good for the body in the right amount, but too much of them is what causes that extra belly fat you can’t seem to get rid of.

Flavanoids work in two ways:

  1. They slow down new fat creation. It does this be reducing the activity of enzymes responsible for that fat creation like G6PD and isocitrate dehydrogenase.
  2. Reduction in bad cholesterol results in increased levels of hepatic and fecal bile acids, as well as neutral sterols which are what the body needs to excrete fat versus retaining it.

Studies on rodents:

Dexamethasone, a highly potent synthetic steroid commonly used in weight loss studies to increase the production and retaining of fat in the body. It basically makes it’s subjects fatter, faster. When administered along with Garcinia Cambogia however, the subjects maintained completely normal levels of body fat. (2)

Another study administered Garcinia Cambogia to rats with high cholesterol problems. The results were a significant reduction of activities of G6DP and isocitrate dehydrogenase and increased reduction of cholesterol in liver and poop samples.(3)

Studies with people:

One of the clinical studies conducted on real people was done with 150 obese patients over a 4 week period. It was a double-blind, placebo-controlled test.

The patients took 55 mg Garcinia cambogia extract, chitosan 240 mg, and chrome 19 mg with a exercise plan. The groups who were given Garcinia showed statistically significant loss in weight, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and even improvements in high density lipoprotein cholesterol. (4)

This was just one of numerous clinical studies that support a reduction in bad cholesterol.
